Video-subtitle-extractor (VSE)

Pulls subtitles that are burned into a video and saves them as a subtitle file.

New this week

What it does

Some videos have subtitles printed right into the picture. This tool reads them with text recognition (OCR) and saves them as a separate subtitle file (SRT) or plain text.

It works on your own computer without any online service or API key. It supports many languages, including Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean, can process several videos at once, and removes duplicate lines.

There are fast, automatic and precise modes. A graphics card (GPU) makes it faster and more accurate, but it can also run without one.

Who it's for

Video editors, language learners and fans who want editable subtitles from videos.

Can I use it without coding?
