What it does
Tyk Gateway sits in front of a company's APIs (doorways that let programs talk to each other) and manages who can use them. It handles logins, limits how often each user can call them, and gathers usage statistics.
It also works as an AI gateway. It can stand in front of MCP servers (connectors that give AI agents tools) and apply sign-in, rate limits and per-tool permissions to every request an agent makes.
The gateway itself is open source. Tyk also sells a hosted cloud version and enterprise tools, such as a dashboard and developer portal, which need a paid licence.
Who it's for
IT and platform teams who run APIs or AI agent connections for many users.
