Stagehand

A toolkit for programs that use websites like a person does: clicking, filling forms and pulling out data.

What it does

Stagehand lets developers control a web browser with plain-language instructions, such as "click the sign in button" or "extract every invoice in the table". AI works out which part of the page to use.

It mixes normal browser-control code with AI steps, so developers can choose where to be exact and where to let AI figure things out. Its makers say the AI steps adapt when a site changes its layout, and that passwords can be filled in without being sent to the AI model.

It is made by Browserbase, which offers cloud browsers, but it can also run with Chrome on your own computer.

Who it's for

Developers building web automations, data collection tools or browser-based AI agents.

Can I use it without coding?

Developers only. It's a code library for TypeScript, Python and Go. New to this? Start here.

Can I run it?

Cost
Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.

Computer
An ordinary computer is fine
Privacy
Sends what you give it to an online service
API key
Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?
