What it does
Ponytail is a set of instructions (a "skill") that you add to an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. It tells the AI to act like a careful, experienced programmer who prefers the smallest solution that works.
Before writing anything, the AI is told to look at what the project already has and reuse it. For example, instead of adding a whole new date-picker library, it might use the one already built into web browsers. Its makers say it never cuts input checks, error handling, security or accessibility, and that risky logic gets a small test.
It also adds review and audit commands that check changes for bugs, security problems and code that can be removed. In Claude Code, it can show how much each task cost and how long it took.
Who it's for
Programmers who use AI coding assistants and want shorter, easier-to-maintain code.
