OpenMetadata

A catalog of an organisation's data that helps people and AI find, understand and trust it.

What it does

OpenMetadata keeps track of an organisation's data: what exists, what it means, who owns it, where it came from, and whether it is up to date and reliable. It connects to many data systems to collect this information.

Its makers describe it as a "context layer" for AI: AI assistants can use it, including through MCP, to learn what the data means and which rules apply before working with it. People can use it to search for data, see how it flows between systems, and record decisions and notes about it.

Who it's for

Data teams and organisations managing lots of data, especially those connecting it to AI assistants.
