What it does
OpenClaw is a personal AI assistant you run on your own computer. Instead of opening a separate app, you talk to it in the messaging apps you already use, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord or iMessage. There are also companion apps for Mac, iPhone, Android, Windows and Linux.
You connect it to an AI model of your choice, either a hosted one like Claude or a model running on your own machine. Tools, skills and plug-ins let the assistant do things, not just answer questions. Its makers say your settings, memory and logins stay on your own hardware.
Because it can run tools on your computer, the README asks people to treat incoming messages as untrusted and to read its security and sandboxing guides before letting other people use it.
Who it's for
People who want a private, always-available AI assistant in their everyday chat apps, and teams who want a shared one.
