OpenAI TypeScript and JavaScript API Library

OpenAI's official code library for using its AI models from JavaScript and TypeScript programs.

Widely usedNew this week

What it does

This is OpenAI's official toolkit for programmers who write in JavaScript or TypeScript. It gives them a simple way to send requests to OpenAI's API, the doorway that lets programs use OpenAI's models.

With it, a program can generate text, hold multi-turn conversations, describe images and use OpenAI's other features. The README includes short examples for each.

Using it requires an OpenAI account and API key, and OpenAI charges for use.

Who it's for

Developers building apps or websites that use OpenAI's models.

Can I use it without coding?

Developers only. It is a code library for programmers. New to this? Start here.

Can I run it?

Cost
Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.
Computer
An ordinary computer is fine
Privacy
Sends what you give it to an online service
API key
Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?
