What it does
Open Interpreter is an AI coding agent: you describe what you want in plain language, and it writes code, runs commands and edits files for you in your terminal (the text-based command window).
This version is built on OpenAI's Codex and focuses on getting the best from cheaper, openly available models such as Kimi and DeepSeek. It does this by copying the "harness", the set of instructions and tools, that each model's makers recommend. You can switch models and harnesses as you go.
It runs commands inside a sandbox (a fenced-off area) on Mac, Linux and Windows, works in code editors that support the Agent Client Protocol, and includes a skill for testing websites and apps. The original Python version of the project lives on as a separate community-maintained fork.
Who it's for
Programmers who want an AI coding helper that works well with low-cost or open models.
