What it does
New API sits between your apps and the AI services they use, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or DeepSeek. Apps talk to one consistent address, and the gateway passes requests to whichever service you have set up.
A web console lets you manage users, access keys, usage limits, prices and logs, and switch providers without reconfiguring every app. It can also translate between the different request formats used by different AI companies.
Its makers state it is meant for lawful, authorised use, and that users must obtain their own model access and follow each provider's terms.

Before you install
- Only download from the official GitHub page. Copies with similar names exist for many popular projects.
- License (AGPL-3.0): Free to use; if you run a changed version as an online service, you must share your source code.
- Keep your API key private. Never paste it into websites or share it, and set a spending limit with the AI service.
- What you type or upload is sent to an online service. Avoid sharing private or sensitive information.
