What it does
MOSS is an open-source chat language model (the kind of AI behind chatbots) that works in both Chinese and English. Some versions can use plugins, such as a search engine, a calculator, an equation solver and an image maker.
The project shares the model files, the conversation data used to train it, and code for running and fine-tuning it (teaching it new skills).
Its makers warn that, being fairly small, it can still give wrong or biased answers, so its output should be checked. Running it needs a graphics card with a lot of memory.
Who it's for
Researchers and developers working with Chinese and English chat models.
Can I use it without coding?
Developers only. Running it means downloading model files and using Python code on a machine with a strong graphics card. New to this? Start here.
