What it does
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way to connect AI apps to outside tools and data. MCP servers are the add-ons that provide those connections.
This project is the registry service: a central list that AI apps can check to discover available MCP servers, and where developers can publish their own. Its makers compare it to an app store.
It is run by a community working group. The README says it is in preview, with its main interface now held stable while feedback is gathered before a full release.
Who it's for
Developers who build MCP servers or AI apps that need to find them.
