LEANN

Lets you search and ask questions about your own files, emails and notes, privately on your laptop.

Research-backedNew this week

What it does

LEANN is a vector database, a kind of search index that finds things by meaning rather than exact words. It helps build RAG systems, where an AI answers questions using your own documents.

Its makers say it uses about 97% less storage than usual tools without losing accuracy, because it works out much of the index on demand instead of storing it all. The README says your data never leaves your laptop.

The README shows it searching files, emails and browser history, and it can plug into the coding assistant Claude Code as a smarter search tool.
