Kiln

A free desktop app for building, testing and improving AI features, with evaluations, fine-tuning and more.

New this week

What it does

Kiln is a workbench for making AI products work better. In one place you can write tests for your AI's answers (evals), improve prompts, add document search (RAG), build agents, create practice data and fine-tune models.

Its desktop app is meant for whole teams: the README says product managers, subject experts and testers can rate outputs and add examples without writing code. Engineers can use the same work through an open Python library.

It runs on your own computer. You bring your own API keys for AI providers, or work fully offline with local models through Ollama. Its makers say its Auto-Optimize feature searches for the best prompt and model for each task.

Who it's for

Teams and individuals building AI features who want to measure and improve quality, including non-coders.

Can I use it without coding?

Yes. There is a one-click desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux; the Python library is for developers. New to this? Start here.
