What it does
When you want an AI chatbot to explain or review a software project, you need to give it the code. Gitingest packs a whole Git repository into a single, neatly formatted text digest.
The easy trick: on any GitHub web address, change "hub" to "ingest" and you get that project's digest. It also shows the folder structure, the size and a token count (tokens are the units AI models measure text in).
It is available as a website, browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox, a command-line tool and a Python package.
Who it's for
Anyone who wants to ask an AI about a code project, from students to developers.
Can I use it without coding?
Yes. The website and browser extensions need no installing of code; the command-line version needs Python. New to this? Start here.
