What it does
Forge is an AI pair programmer that runs in the terminal, the text window programmers use to run commands. You chat with it to write code, fix problems or learn new technologies, and it can read and change files in your project.
It works with many AI providers, including OpenAI and Anthropic, using your own API key. It has an interactive mode, a one-off command mode and a shell add-on, and its makers say a restricted mode limits what it can change on your computer.
Who it's for
Programmers who like working in the terminal and want an AI helper there.
