What it does
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way to connect AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT to outside tools and data. FastMCP is a Python framework that makes building those connections, called MCP servers and clients, much simpler.
A programmer writes an ordinary Python function and FastMCP handles the technical details, such as describing it to the AI, checking inputs, sign-in and communication. It can also give tools small interactive screens that appear right in the AI conversation. Its makers say an early version became part of the official MCP Python toolkit, and a TypeScript version is also available.
