Fabric

A library of ready-made AI prompts for everyday tasks, plus a tool to run them on your own text.

What it does

Fabric is built around "patterns": carefully written AI prompts, each for one real-world job, such as summarising an article, pulling key ideas from a video transcript or improving a piece of writing.

You can copy the patterns into any AI chat app. Or you can use Fabric's own command-line tool, which feeds your text or files through a chosen pattern and AI model. It works with many AI providers.

Its makers describe it as a way to fit AI into daily life by organising the prompts that work for you in one place.

Who it's for

People who reuse the same kinds of AI requests and want good, shareable prompts; comfortable command-line users get the most out of it.

Can I use it without coding?

With some setup. The main tool runs in a terminal. The prompt patterns themselves are plain text you can copy anywhere. New to this? Start here.

Can I run it?

Cost
Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.
Runs on
Mac, Windows, Linux
Computer
An ordinary computer is fine
API key
Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?

Try it

  1. Install Fabric with the one-line installer, Homebrew, or a downloaded program file.
  2. Run Fabric's setup and connect an AI provider.
  3. Pick a ready-made pattern, such as a summary, and run it on your own text.

Using Claude Code, Cursor or another AI coding assistant? Paste the prompt and it will walk you through the setup.New to this?
