What it does
EmotiVoice is a free text-to-speech engine: you type text and it reads it aloud. It speaks English and Chinese and, according to its makers, offers over 2,000 voices.
Its main feature is emotion. You can ask for speech that sounds happy, excited, sad, angry and more. It comes with a simple web page for trying it, plus tools for making many clips at once.
There is a Mac app, a version that runs on your own computer, and an online API from its makers. The project also explains how to train it on recordings of a person's voice.
Who it's for
Video makers, app builders and anyone who needs expressive English or Chinese voiceovers.
