edge-tts

Turns text into spoken audio files using the voices from Microsoft Edge's read-aloud feature.

Widely usedNew this week

What it does

edge-tts lets you use the online text-to-speech voices that Microsoft Edge uses for reading pages aloud, without opening the Edge browser. You give it text and it saves an MP3 file, plus optional subtitles.

There are many voices in many languages, and you can change the speed, volume and pitch. It can also play the speech straight away.

It is an unofficial tool that talks to Microsoft's online service, so your text is sent to Microsoft and it only works while that service allows it. It can be used from the command line or inside Python programs.
