Add-ons for AI coding tools

Desktop Commander MCP

Lets Claude and other AI chat apps search, edit and manage files and run programs on your computer.

New this week

What it does

Desktop Commander is an MCP server, a plug-in that gives an AI assistant new abilities. It lets apps like Claude Desktop run terminal commands, manage running programs, and search and edit files on your computer.

It can read and write Excel, Word and PDF files, analyse CSV or spreadsheet data on request, and make small, precise edits to code. Its makers say this uses your existing chat subscription instead of paying per use of an API.

Because it gives the AI real control over your files and programs, it's worth being careful about what you ask it to do.

Who it's for

People who use Claude Desktop or similar AI apps and want them to work directly with files and tools on their computer.

Can I use it without coding?
