AI memory

Cognee

Gives AI agents a long-term memory built from your documents, code and conversations.

Research-backed

What it does

Cognee is an open-source "memory" system for AI agents. It reads documents, code and conversations and turns them into a knowledge graph, a map of facts and how they're connected, that an AI can search and reuse later.

This lets an agent remember past decisions, fixes and project context from one session to the next, or lets a team build a shared "company brain". Its makers say it can run locally for free using small models on your computer's processor, with no API key needed; adding an AI model gives written answers instead of just matching passages.

Developers can use it from Python, a command-line tool, plugins or an MCP connector, or use the makers' cloud service.
