What it does
Claude Context is an add-on for AI coding assistants such as Claude Code. It lets the assistant search across your entire codebase to find the code that matters for a task.
It stores a searchable index of your code in a vector database, a kind of store that finds things by meaning rather than exact words, so the assistant pulls in only the relevant parts.
Its makers say this keeps costs down on large projects, because the assistant no longer has to read whole folders for every request.
Who it's for
Developers using AI coding assistants who work with large codebases.
Can I use it without coding?
With some setup. You add it to your coding tool with a command and provide keys for an embedding service and a vector database. New to this? Start here.
Can I run it?
- Cost
- Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.
- Runs on
- Mac, Windows, Linux
- Computer
- An ordinary computer is fine
- Privacy
- Sends what you give it to an online service
- API key
- Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?
Try it
- Get an account key for the embedding service and the vector database it uses.
- Add the add-on to your AI coding tool using the setup command.
- Ask your coding assistant to search the codebase.
Using Claude Code, Cursor or another AI coding assistant? Paste the prompt and it will walk you through the setup.New to this?
