ChatGPT Telegram Bot

What it does

This project puts AI chat models from OpenAI and Anthropic inside Telegram. You set up your own bot, and you and the people you allow can chat with it like any Telegram contact.

It streams answers as they are written, can read images you send, turn voice notes into text, and create images. It has many chat modes, such as assistant, English tutor or travel guide, and you can add your own.

You pay the AI provider directly for what you use, and the bot can show how much you've spent.

Try it

  1. Get an OpenAI API key, and optionally an OpenRouter key for Claude.
  2. Create a Telegram bot with Telegram's BotFather and copy its token.
  3. Put your keys into the project's settings files and start it with Docker.

Before you install

  • Only download from the official GitHub page. Copies with similar names exist for many popular projects.
  • License (MIT): Very permissive: free to use, change and share, including for business.
  • Keep your API key private. Never paste it into websites or share it, and set a spending limit with the AI service.
  • What you type or upload is sent to an online service. Avoid sharing private or sensitive information.
