Caire

Resizes photos by removing or adding the least important parts, so key details like faces stay intact.

What it does

Caire changes the size of an image without simply squashing or cropping it. It looks for the least important strips of pixels, such as plain sky or empty background, and removes or duplicates them. This technique is called seam carving and comes from a research paper.

It can shrink or enlarge pictures in width and height, make an image square, or scale it by a percentage. An optional face detection feature spots human faces and avoids changing them. You can also give it a mask image to protect certain areas or to mark areas you want removed.

It is a command-line tool, a program you run by typing commands. It can show a preview window while it works, and it can process a whole folder of images at once. It saves to jpg, png and bmp.

Who it's for

People who want to resize photos while keeping the important content looking natural, and developers who want to add this to their own tools.

Can I use it without coding?
