What it does
BibiGPT takes a video from YouTube or Bilibili (a Chinese video site), reads its subtitles, and uses an AI model to write a short summary of what it covers.
This repository holds the first version of the project, which supports YouTube and Bilibili. The makers run a newer hosted service with more sources, such as podcasts and meetings, and a browser extension.
To run this version yourself you need an OpenAI key, and it can be set up locally or deployed online.
Who it's for
Students and busy viewers who want quick summaries of long videos, and developers who want to run their own copy.
Can I use it without coding?
With some setup. Running this version yourself needs some technical setup; the makers' hosted service needs none. New to this? Start here.
Can I run it?
- Cost
- Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.
- Runs on
- Server, Cloud
- Computer
- An ordinary computer is fine
- Privacy
- Sends what you give it to an online service
- API key
- Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?
Try it
- Get an OpenAI key and add it to the project's settings file.
- Start the app on your computer or with Docker, then open it in your browser and paste a video link.
Using Claude Code, Cursor or another AI coding assistant? Paste the prompt and it will walk you through the setup.New to this?
