What it does
AKShare is a Python library, a ready-made bundle of code that programmers can use, for collecting financial data. It pulls information such as daily stock prices, bond quotes and fund data from many public finance websites and stock exchanges, mostly in China. Its makers say you can fetch the data you need with just one line of code.
It includes an offline search tool, so you can find the right data source by typing keywords without going online. The README says this is handy for programs driven by large language models (the AI behind chatbots) that need to turn a plain request into the right data call.
A companion project called AKTools lets AI assistants such as Claude and Cursor look up AKShare data from a question written in everyday language. The README says the data is for academic research and reference only, and is not investment advice.
Who it's for
Programmers, students and researchers who want easy access to financial market data, especially Chinese markets, for analysis or AI tools.
