Aider

An AI pair programmer in your terminal that edits your code and saves each change.

What it does

Aider lets you work on code together with an AI model, as if you had a programming partner. You tell it what you want, and it changes the files in your project directly. It can start new projects or work on existing ones.

It builds a map of your whole codebase to work well in large projects, and supports most popular programming languages. Every change is saved in Git (a version-history tool), so you can review or undo what the AI did.

It works with many AI models, including Claude, DeepSeek and OpenAI models, as well as models running on your own computer. You can also add images and web pages for context, or talk to it with your voice.

Programmers who are comfortable with the command line and want AI help writing and fixing code.

Try it

  1. Install aider using Python's package installer.
  2. Open your project folder in the terminal.
  3. Start aider with your chosen AI model and its API key.
