AG-UI

A shared standard for connecting AI agents to the apps and screens people actually use.

What it does

AG-UI (Agent-User Interaction Protocol) is a set of rules for how an AI agent talks to the app in front of a person. A protocol is an agreed format, so different tools can work together.

With it, an agent can stream chat replies as they are written, keep information in sync with the app, show custom interface pieces, use tools inside the app, and pause for a person to approve a step.

Its makers say it complements two other standards: MCP, which gives agents tools, and A2A, which lets agents talk to each other.
