Kun

A desktop AI workspace where agents help you write code, work on documents and research, keeping data on your computer.

New this week

What it does

Kun is a desktop app that brings coding, document work and AI agent chats into one place. You give it a project folder or some files and a task, and the agent works on it, asking for your approval before it acts.

Its makers say conversations, memory and settings stay on your computer; when you use an online model, only the needed context is sent to that provider. You connect your own model, with presets for DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen, Ollama and others.

It also has plug-ins, reminders, scheduled tasks and a text-based version for the terminal. The README is in Chinese.

Who it's for

People who want a local-first AI assistant for coding, writing and research.

Can I use it without coding?

Yes. There are installers for Mac, Windows and Linux, and first-run setup asks for a model key. New to this? Start here.

Can I run it?

Cost
Free, but needs an AI accountThe software is free, but it uses an online AI service (like OpenAI or Anthropic), which usually charges for use.

API key
Needed. An API key is a password-like code from an online AI service. What's that?

Try it

  1. Download the installer for your computer from the project's releases page.
  2. On first launch, connect a model by entering an API key or signing in to an existing subscription, or choose a local model.
  3. Open a project folder or drop in some documents and give the agent a specific task.
